Claiborne students to receive free meals

The introduction of a provision through the Health, Hunger-Free Kids Act is making the old stigma associated with free and reduced-price meals a thing of the past.Community Eligibility, a successful pilot program introduced in other states in 2010, has now made it to Tennessee. Under the provision, every student will be eligible for free breakfasts and lunches.“This is a wonderful opportunity for us to get on board and offer this to the families in our district,” said Sherry Hatfield, director of claiborne school nutrition.Hatfield said families who do not qualify for free or reduced meals routinely face staggering bills.

 

Chuckey-Doak wins at Gap, Claiborne in softball action

The Lady Black Knights of Chuckey-Doak scheduled back-to-back games with the Cumberland Gap Lady Panthers and Claiborne Lady Bulldogs on April 8.
