Chase ends in standoff in Grainger County

A chase that began in Claiborne County has resulted in a standoff with a suspect in Grainger County, according to reports.Claiborne County Sheriff David Ray has told the media that deputies are working to end a standoff with the man, who fled from officers in Claiborne County.The suspect was allegedly driving a stolen vehicle on U.S. Hwy. 25E when the chase began, according to reports.Ray has described the chase as “high-speed” and the suspect is reportedly heavily armed.According to a report from the Grainger County Sheriff’s Office, shots were allegedly fired.The suspect turned onto Hwy. 131, where he and negotiators are on the scene.The Claiborne Progress will have more information as it becomes available.
