Harrogate, TN- The Lincoln Memorial University Lady Railsplitter softball team needed to sweep the Lady Trojans of Anderson to keep their hopes of making the South Atlantic Conference tournament alive. The LMU team unsurprisingly looked to be ready for this one. LMU head coach Dan Burns had a runner on third in the opening inning but to his disbelief she was tagged out while diving back to the base pad when a squeeze play of sorts went horribly wrong. Burns went over and leaned on the dug out fence to control his emotions and that’s when the LMU offense took off. Back to back home runs by Taylor McGinnis and Sarah Walz inspired the team as they took the game one win by a score of 8-2. Also adding spark to the offensive attack were Bridgett Eicher, Ashley Knight and Meg Ryan. Getting the win from the circle was Katie-Jo Gentry. In game two LMU once again took an early lead but Anderson responded and quickly tied it up. With the score tied in the third Bridgett Eicher broke it open with a solo home run. They went on to get the game two victory by a score of 6-3. Gentry pitched five innings in this one also and Cierra Mudd pitched the remaining two to get the save. The Lady Splitters are now 25-20 overall and 6-10 in conference but more importantly have qualified for the post-season SAC tournament where anything can happen.
