Honeycutt said the suspect, who was armed with a knife, went behind the counter and took an undetermined amount of cash from the register then left the scene.
This is the second robbery attempt at Lee’s Food Mart in one week. The first attempt, which was unsuccessful, took place at closing time on Monday April 13 when a white male suspect confronted a store clerk outside the store demanding money.
Capt. Honeycutt said the CCSO did not believe the same suspect made the robbery attempt both times, but he did feel the two suspects were connected.
The CCSO is actively investigating the case and Capt. Honeycutt reported that forensic evidence was left at the scene. He said the forensic evidence was being tested and more information would be provided as results came in.
Anyone with information regarding either case is encouraged to contact Capt. Honeycutt at the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office at 626-3385.
