Yes- it may be a surprise, but Claiborne County has a homeless population.

The federal assistance the county receives each year is based on the number of homeless in the county. For that reason, the public’s help is needed to do the count on January 26th.

Mail carriers, bus drivers, law enforcement, emergency personnel, churches, teachers, Home Health, etc. are aware of people in need and could aid in this count. If you know people living in desperate housing or no housing, you can help.

No names are used and all information is kept confidential and only used to get accurate data on those who are homeless and near homeless to qualify for federal assistance.

This count of the county’s homeless population is a requirement of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and is done in cooperation with Tennessee Valley Coalition to End Homelessness (TVCEH).

Everyone interested in helping should call Edwin Robertson at 865-207-5814 or Robin Mason at 423-526-8775 or 423-626-2592.
