Named one of the Top 20 Events in the Southeast for June 2013 by the Southeast Tourism Society, organizers are hard at work producing the 2013 White Lighting Trail Festival to be held in Cumberland Gap June 29 and 30.

There are plenty of events and lots of fun being planned for this year’s festival, according to Carl Nichols, director of Claiborne County tourism and the festival director.

Festival events begin on June 27 with the White Lightning Trail Festival Beauty Pageant at Cumberland Gap High School. There are eight age categories for girls, infancy through 21 years of age.

Friday evening, June 28, the festivities begin with the Kick-Off Celebration at 6 p.m. at Berkau Park in Cumberland Gap. Entertainers Kenzie Partin, J.R. Jackson and Tri-County Trio will kick off the festival. Food vendors will open at 5:30 p.m. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and the entire family for an evening of live music and fun.

Saturday’s events begin with a 5K run in Cumberland Gap. Registration is from 6:30 until 7 a.m. and the 5K run begins at 8 a.m. Food vendors, as well as arts and crafts vendors will be open from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. The White Lightning Trail Festival Car Show runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The White Lightning Trail Festival Bike Run to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project begins in Knoxville at 1 p.m. and arrives in Cumberland Gap at 5 p.m.

“Bring your American flag and cheer the riders as they arrive in the Gap,” said Nichols.

Live entertainment will be on stage at Berkau Park all throughout the day. Line dancers, cloggers, cheerleaders, and square dancers will be dancing in the street throughout the day as well. The evening will close with the Silver Clouds from Nashville Connection.

Sunday will also be a day full of entertainment and vendors. Beginning at 10 a.m. and running until 9 p.m. Once again, bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy bluegrass, country, and rock throughout the day ending with the Sour Mash Band from 7 until 9 p.m.

“There will be something for everyone at the White Lightning Trail Festival,” said Nichols.

If you are interested in participating in the festival as an art/craft vendor, pageant contestant, bike rider, 5K runner, car show entry, or dance team, go to: claibornecounty.com and choose “events.” All applications are posted online. You may also call Carl Nichols at 865-585-7386.
