Get your appetite ready! It’s time for the annual Chili Cook-Off!

Everyone is invited to attend the Second Annual Great Claiborne County Chili Cook-Off, Crafts and Yard sale to be held this Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Tazewell Municipal Park on Richardson Rd.

It’s going to be a tough, fun competition and there will be several chili competitors vying for your vote. Upon paying $5 admission to the park you will receive five voting tickets to vote for your favorite chili.

In addition to great chili, there will be approximately 30 craft and yard sale vendors, according to organizer Carl Nichols, director of Claiborne County Tourism.

“This is a great time to begin that holiday shopping!” Nichols said.

Live music will be provided by MacKenzie Partin and Jim Willoughby during the event. There will also be a Halloween Costume contest for children from pre-school to sixth grade in four age categories (Pre-school, K & 1st Grade, 2nd – 4th, and 5th – 6th). Children in costume who are competing in the costume contest will be admitted free.

The Boy Scouts will be selling popcorn and church and school groups will be selling food and baked goods.

“You may even want to try your luck riding the mechanical bull,” Nichols laughed.

The Tazewell Municipal Park has a lot to offer the county and those who use it. It has a basketball court, tennis courts, children’s playground area, baseball field, horse shoe pits, and a mile-long walking trail. There will also be several corn hole boards set up for you to enjoy. Bring your basketball, tennis racket, Frisbee, horse shoes, etc. and enjoy a fun day at the park while supporting the Claiborne County Tourism Commission.

Anyone wishing to participate as a chili competitor, craft vendor, yard sale vendor, business, or information vendor may still reserve a spot by calling 865-585-7386.

Nichols said he appreciates the support of chili cooks and others such as The Realty Group, Carla’s Café Cakes and Catering, Lazy Days Tobacco Outlet, Porter Tires, Home Federal Bank, Sun Loan Company, Nothin’s Perfect, U.S. Cellular, Claiborne County Hospital, Stand in the Gap and Southern Pride Land and Cattle, Inc.
