Rumored threat of shooters at CHS put to rest

An alleged conspiracy between a couple of students to take guns to Claiborne High School (CHS) Thursday morning was stopped by school and law enforcement officials before the school day began.According to Connie Holdway, director of Claiborne County Schools, there were rumors that there were going to be possible student shooters at CHS on Thursday.“We take rumors like that seriously, so school administration and local police responded to it,” she said.The students involved never set foot on school property Thursday morning, she added, because the alleged threat was acted upon before they arrived on the property.


Pleas accepted in Sessions Court

Claiborne County Sessions Court Judge Robert Estep recently accepted several plea agreements.Jimmy Lester Huff Jr., 60, charged with assault, was given a reduced sentence of 11 months, 29 days ETHRA supervised probation. Huff must pay at least $75 per month in court costs and fines and forfeits $200 to the Victim’s Assistance Assessment. He also forfeits all firearms and other items seized during the incident. One man was killed Monday as the result of a wreck on U.S. Hwy. 25E, near the intersection with Lower Caney Valley Road.
