Claiborne County Fair Association and Tazewell Jaycees present their First Annual Poker Run, scheduled for Saturday, April 19 at the Claiborne County Fairgrounds in Tazewell. Gates will open at 10:30 a.m. and will pull out at 12 p.m.

All proceeds go to the 2008 Christmas Food Basket Fund. Prizes will be awarded and a concession will be available on site.

CHS Athletics Golf Tournament

The Claiborne High School Athletics Golf Tournament will be held Friday, April 25 at Woodlake Golf Club with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. A four man scramble, the tournament is $300 per team that will also feature Closest to the Pin and Longest Drive. Proceeds benefit the CHS Athletics Department.

Race for School Health

Claiborne County Coordinated School Health will have a run/walk race to promote good health across Claiborne County. The race will be a two mile run/walk. This race will benefit Claiborne County Schools Health and Physical Education Departments. Schools with the highest percentage of participation will receive a gift for their P.E. Department.

The race will be held at the Claiborne High School parking lot on Saturday, April 12 at 9 a.m. The entry fee for ages 8-18 is $5; for ages 19 and up, the fee is $10.

Trophies and certificates will be awarded for the best times to the following age groups: Boys and Girls/Men and Women 11-14; 15-18; 19-29; 30-49; 50 and up.

All participants will receive a free T-shirt and a gift bag from Runners World magazine.

Applications will be available at any of the schools and at the Claiborne County Board of Education office.

Attention Lady Golfers

Woodlake would like to invite all ladies interested in golfing to a meeting on April at 6:30 p.m. at the Clubhouse. We would like to start an evening scramble, plus weed day play.

Annual Claiborne County Rescue Squad Bass Fishing Tournament Scheduled

The Claiborne County Rescue Squad Seventh Annual Bass Fishing Tournament is scheduled for April 12 at Norris Lake/Cedar Grove Marina on Hwy. 33 South. Launch will take place at 7 a.m. The cost is $40 per boat.

Prizes include:

1st Prize - $900

2nd Prize - $500

3rd Prize - $350

4th Prize - $100

There will also be a big fish pot - $10 per boat - winner takes all. You may pre-register or register the morning of the tournament.

Registration forms may be obtained by contacting one of the Rescue Squad members or picking one up in various locations around the county.

The Claiborne County Rescue Squad is a non-paid volunteer emergency department, whose volunteers spend many hours of their personai time conducting emergency operations, training, vehicle and building maintenance, and fund raising activities in order to help those in need. Anderson County Shoot-Out

Claxton Optimist Basketball will be hosting the 3rd annual Anderson County Shoot-out on April 4-6. Ages are 8 and under, 17 and under. The entry fee is $125 per team.

There will be individual team introductions, music, play by play announcing, medallions for player of the game, and fully stocked concession stand.
