TAZEWELL — The Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office has been doing its part to help Claiborne County and after only two years in their new home the CCSO has made a significant impact on the economy of Claiborne County, generating over $800,000 in revenue.

In just one year, from July 1, 2007, through June 30, 2008, the CCSO brought a total revenue of $818,012 to Claiborne County.

“These numbers are outstanding,” said Claiborne County Sheriff David Ray. “I am extremely please with the revenue the jail has generated and have plans to continue to generate money from the jail to help the taxpayers of the county.”

The Claiborne County Jail has been the main source of income for the CCSO, bringing in $612,898 from state and federal inmate boarding. Sheriff Ray said, “I am very proud of the Jail Administration and all the employees of the jail for helping make this happen.”

Not only has the department helped the county by bringing in revenue, but the Sheriff’s Office is also working hard to keep the county clean and beautiful.

The Claiborne County Sheriff’s Litter Collection Program has removed 402.83 weighed tons of trash and discarded items from the highways and county roads of Claiborne County. The program consists of two litter trucks that transport inmate trustees to the public roadways in Claiborne County where they pick up trash daily. Also as a part of the litter program, inmates work each month on a special project in the county such as working on renovations in schools or to public buildings.

In just two years the CCSO and Claiborne County jail have made a huge impact on the economy of Claiborne County. Sheriff Ray said in the future the CCSO plans to continue working to make a positive impact on the community.
