It’s time for the fair!

TAZEWELL - Its time for the fair and Claiborne county residents can expect plenty to do each day this week. The Claiborne County Fair Association is presenting the 52nd annual Claiborne County Fair and offering something for everyone.

There are carnival rides for both young and old and plenty of good things to eat. There will be exhibits displaying everything from homemade arts and crafts to the biggest pumpkin grown right here in Claiborne County. There will also be livestock shows and of course the antique tractor pull.

Also, the Demolition Derby will be back in town. The 4-cylinder derby competition will be held Wednesday, August 27, and both males and females can enter. The entry fee will be $25 and there will be $700 in prize money to win.

The regular Annual Derby will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2008 and there will be a total prize amount of $2,500 to win. The entry fee for the Annual Derby is $35.

Each night there will be shows and special music then to cap off a week of fun there will be a Fireworks show on Saturday night from 9:30 to 10:00p.m.

The 2008 Claiborne County Fair began Monday August 25 and will last through August 30 at the Jaycee Fairground in Tazewell.

Gates will open at 5 p.m. daily and guests can buy a chance on a $500 gas card for $2 a ticket. All the proceeds will go to the Christmas Food Basket Fund.

The Schedule of events for each night of the fair are as follows is as follows: Wednesday, August 27, 2008, 4 Cylinder class Demolition Derby, available to both men and women, Begins at 7 p.m.; Thursday, August 27, 2008, Demolition Derby V-8 class, Begins at 7 p.m., Friday, August 29, 2008, Antique and Modified Tractor Pull, Street Legal stock 4-wheel drive Truck Pull, Weigh in at 6 p.m., Starts at 7 p.m.; Saturday, August 30, 2008, ATV Pull, Weigh in at 5 p.m., Starts at 7 p.m., Fireworks will be from 9:30 to 10 and there will be live music from Crossfire beginning at 5:45, Outlaw Thunder at 7:00, 100 Proof at 8:00 and Jesse Watson at 9:15.
