Shower for Ann Widner

On March 3, 2008 Ann Widner lost her home and her daughter Rita to a house fire. A shower given by family and friends will be held for her at Midway School on October 4, 2008 from 2 - 4. If you wish to send a gift it can be dropped off at Hair Etc. to Bernice.

Ninth Annual 12-Mile Yard Sale

The day is fast approaching for the 9th Annual 12-Mile Yard Sale in the clinch Valley area. The sale will be held on Saturday, October 4th beginning at 8:30 AM rain or shine. Look for signs to guide you to Clinch Valley Rd. about 8 miles north of Rogersville. Residents and non-residents alike are welcome to set up and sell items. Please call 272-4997 for information. The Claiborne County Public Library will be having its annual book sale the week of October 6th - 11th. Come by and check out the bargains. Nothing will be over a $1.00. For more information call the library at 626-5414.

Financial Aid Presentation

On October 6th, 2008 WSCC Office of Enrollment and Development will be hosting a financial aid presentation for parents and students graduating in spring 2009. They will be presenting general financial aid information useful for any post-secondary school. The information will include TSAC information, deadlines and information necessary to file the FAFSA application. Additionally, at the conclusion of the presentation, they will conduct a drawing for a one-time $500.00 scholarship to be awarded to a student planning to attend Walter State in the fall of 2009. The times are from 6-7:30 and the date is October 6th, 2008. They must be present to win the scholarship.

ACT Workshop/ PLAN TEST

There will be an ACT workshop on October 7&9 from 2-4 at Claiborne High School. Juniors and Seniors are encouraged to sign up now while space is still available. The PLAN test will be given at Claiborne High School on October 28, 2008 to all 10th grade students. The PLAN test a component of the ACT College Readiness System will serve as a midpoint measure of academic progress in high school. This test is a predictor of success on the ACT, an early indicator of college readiness. All parents need to make sure your students are in attendance this date.

Girl Scouts

Calling all girls ages 5 - 17. It’s not too late to join Girl Scouts. We now have new troops waiting for you. If you like crafts, cooking, camping, earning badges, or just having fun, come join us.

Claiborne High School

The Claiborne High School greenhouse is now selling fall mums. The greenhouse is open Monday - Friday from 8:00 - 2:30. Stop by the greenhouse or call Jamie Mundy at 626-7474 for more information.

C. W. Gose Playground Equipment

There will be a dedication of new playground equipment at C. W. Gose Park, Thursday October 2 at 9:30 AM. This new equipment was made possible by New Tazewell Wal-Mart selling the most Post-It notes. Everyone is invited to attend.

Claiborne Co. Sanitation Department

The CCSWA will meet Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at 7:00 PM, in the small courtroom of the Claiborne County Court House for their regular meeting.

Claiborne Co. Planning Commission

The Claiborne County Regional Planning Commission will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at 12:30 PM on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 in the meeting room of The Alpha School, New Tazewell, Tennessee. Members will meet at 11:30 for lunch. The public is welcome to attend.

Tazewell Planning Commission

Fall Carnival

Springdale Elementary School Fall Carnival will be October 3rd, 2008. Rides and bingo from 6 - 8:30. Auction begins at 8:45. Admission: Adults and Children, $1.00 at the door. Activities include: country store, face painting, balloons, fish pond, basketball throw, Coke ring toss, Kongo crazy slide, moon walk, laser tag, bungee run, obstacle course, joust.

Chili Supper

There will be a chili supper from 5 to 7:30 on Friday, October 3 in the cafeteria at Claiborne High School before the Homecoming game. Meal includes chili, side dessert and drink. $5.00 per meal.

Beauty Pageant

The Fall Queen Pageant will be held October 18 at #:00 in the multi-purpose room at Claiborne High School.
