The PLAN test will be given at Claiborne High School on Oct. 28, 2008 to all 10th grade students. The PLAN test a component of the ACT
College Readiness System will serve as a midpoint measure of academic progress in high school. This test is a predictor of success on the ACT, an early indicator of college readiness. All parents need to make sure your students are in attendance this date.

VFW Christmas Angels
New Tazewell’s VFW Post 8779 will be accepting names for their Christmas Angel party for children ages 1-12 on Mon., Oct. 20 through Thurs., Oct. 23. The program is for children who reside in Claiborne County. Parents/guardians need to bring children with official identification and indication of need by the Post Home between 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. each evening until slots are filled.

Trunk or Treat
Girl Scouts of Claiborne County would like to invite the community to the 2nd annual Trunk or Treat on Oct. 24 from 5-8 p.m. at Victory Assembly of God Church. There will be bounce houses, games, food, face painting, crafts and fun.
Everyone is encouraged to come dressed in a kid friendly costume. All money raised will benefit the Girl Scouts of Claiborne County.
Union County High School Veterans Day Program
The students and staff of Union County High School will be holding their 8th Annual Veterans Day Program on Mon., Nov. 10, 2008. Registration and refreshments will be at 9 a.m. with the program starting at 10 a.m. in the auditorium.

Commodities will be given out in Maynardville, Union County, on Nov. 11, 2008 at the Paulette Bldg. on Hwy 33. Hours will be 8 a.m. until 12 p.m., or until the food runs out. CHS Veterans Day Program
Claiborne High School will be presenting a Veterans Day program on Mon., Nov. 10, at the school. Breakfast will be served for Veterans beginning at 8 a.m. in the cafeteria. The program will begin at 9 a.m. in the school gymnasium. All Veterans are invited to attend.
TNT Fall Festival
Our fall festival will be held on Fri., Nov. 7, from 5-8 p.m. with the auction at 8 p.m. Parents from T.N.T. Primary School are collecting donated items for our Fall Festival auction. East Tenn. State University Bluegrass Band
East Tenn. State University Bluegrass Band will perform at the Jimmy Martin Memorial Bluegrass Park in Sneedville, Tenn. Harrogate City Hall
The second of a series of community meetings will be conducted at Harrogate City Hall on Oct. 28, at 6:30 p.m. for the purpose of discussing the establishing of a Design Review Commission to serve as a sub-committee of the Planning and Zoning Commission. The intent of the Design Review Commission would be to review signs, safety, landscaping and well-being of the community. Residents are encouraged to attend and participate in this meeting.

Gospel singing
The Pfeifers will be featured at the New Hope Church in Morristown, Tenn., on Tues., Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. The Pfeifers have enjoyed much success and are recognized as a leader in the Christian music genre.
