Free Computer Classes

Second Harvest Food Bank
The New Tazewell WalMart is doing a cereal drive for Second Harvest Food Bank thru December 16. Second Harvest is also in need of canned goods and other non-perishable items. If you would like to donate any of these items, please drop them off at this location by December 16. All donations will be greatly appreciated.
Hospital Board
The Claiborne County Hospital Board of Directors will hold a lease agreement review workshop on December 12, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the Claiborne County Chamber of Commerce office located at 1732 Main Street, Suite 1, Tazewell, TN 37879.
The December meeting of the Claiborne County Hospital Board has been re-scheduled from December 23 to Tuesday, December 16 at 6 p.m.
SMMS Talent Show
Soldiers Memorial Middle School will hold its second annual talent show on December 11, 2008 from 3:30 p.m. until all performances are completed. Several students have signed up for the event. Talents include singing, dancing, artists, bands, etc. Everyone is welcome to attend and admission is free. SMMS report cards
Soldiers Memorial Middle School will send the 3rd six weeks report card home on Wednesday, January 7, 2009. There will be a Parent/Teacher Conference the following day on Thursday, January 8, 2009. Shriners’ Christmas party
Claiborne County Shrine Club will hold our annual Christmas party December 15 for burn and handicapped children that receive health care at the Lexington and Cincinnati hospitals. The party will be at McDonald’s in Tazewell starting at 6 p.m.

The regular monthly meeting will be Thursday, December 11 at 7 p.m. at Powell Valley Elementary School. One topic on the agenda will be the Director of Schools contract.

Claiborne County School System CHILD FIND
The Claiborne County School System has special educational services available to all persons under age 21 with disabilities even if hey are not yet of school age. The school system is attempting to locate all children with disabilities. A person with disabilities means Mentally Retarded, Hearing Impaired, Deaf, Speech Impaired, Visually Impaired, Emotionally disturbed, Physically Impaired, Autism, Gifted, and Learning Disabled. If you have, or know, a child who has a disability and is not enrolled in school or an approved program such as Head Start, ARC Early Intervention, or TEIS, call the Claiborne County Department of Special Education at 423-626-7979.
Poinsettia sale
Walters State Community College’s production horticulture students are holding their annual poinsettia sale in the greenhouse, which is located adjacent to the Clifford H. “Bo” Henry Center for Business and Technology on the Morristown Campus. This year, the sale features red, white and pink versions of the popular Christmas plant. Seven-inch plants will be $8 each or two for $15. Larger 10-inch plants are $18 each. Craft fair
The parents of the Claiborne County Girl Scouts will be having a craft fair at Tazewell United Methodist Church on Saturday December 13 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tables are $10 which goes to the Girl Scouts. If interested in a table, contact Kristen at (423) 259-0968 or 526-2549 by 9 p.m. Friday, December 12. There will be craft activities for children, gift wrapping, craft booths and baked goods.

The Claiborne County Courthouse will be closed the following days for the Christmas and New Year holidays: Wednesday, December 24, Thursday, December 25, Friday, December 26 and Thursday, January 1.
Christmas Lighting at the Park
The Town of Tazewell, along with volunteer help from the Claiborne High School National Honor Society will be presenting a Christmas lighting at the Tazewell Municipal Park. The event is scheduled for Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
Christmas Line Dance Party

Driver License Roadblocks
The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be conducting driver license roadblocks during the week of 12/07 thru 12/13 on TN 63, Davis Road in Claiborne County; the week of 12/14 thru 12/20 on TN 63, Bristol Road in Claiborne County; the week of 12/21 thru 12/27 on TN 33 in Claiborne County, and the week of 12/28 thru 1/3 on TN 63, TN 345, Bristol Road, Davis Road in Claiborne County.
Recognizing the danger presented to the public by unqualified drivers, Troopers will concentrate their efforts on vehicles being operated by drivers who would violate the driver license laws of Tennessee.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol has found these driver license roadblocks to be an effective means of enforcing driver license laws of Tennessee while ensuring the protection of all motorists.
