He said they will miss the friends they had made in Cumberland Gap, but said when an opportunity arises one has to take it. Davis’ resignation became effective at the close of the meeting. Mayor Douglas and the other alderman thanked Davis for the time he served and wished him and his wife well in their new ventures.
In new business Mayor Douglas announced he was appointing a council to review all contracts before they went before city attorney Robert Estep. Douglas noted the members of the council will be Bill McGaffee, Jerry Hopson, and Anne Parish.
Douglas then said he feels a position should be filled in city hall. He said city recorder Linda Moyers is currently the only person with access to the city’s records and information on the computer. When Moyers is out of town or has to be away from the office city hall must be closed. Douglas feels this is an inconvenience to the town and wants to hire someone as a backup for Moyers when she is away.
Douglas said he wants to hire Anne Parish as a secondary person when Moyers is unavailable. Alderman Jerry Hopson said he didn’t believe the city employees could serve as board members. He said it seemed it would be a conflict of interest. Douglas said he would seek the opinion of city attorney Robert Estep and the item will be discussed again next month.
In old business the board briefly discussed the renovations of a building on Roslyn Ave. Mayor Douglas said the building was discussed somewhat during the board’s planning session, and it was decided to continue looking into the project. An estimated cost of renovation would be around $2,000 the board felt it would be best to further discuss the issue next month for financial reasons.
After brief department reports the meeting was adjourned and the Cumberland Gap Beer Board meeting was called to order. There was no new business and no old business reported so the meeting was quickly adjourned.
