Martha Amanda Elizabeth Valentine, 89, of Johnson City went to be with the Lord Wednesday, December 31, 2008 while surrounded by her family at home.

She was born June 13, 1919 in Tazewell to the late Rev. Andrew J. and Mary Porter Sulfridge Buchanan. She was a member of Unaka Avenue Baptist Church where she was an active participant in the church's Silent Department. Mrs. Valentine was later a member of Central Baptist Deaf Mission. She was a devoted mother and avid quilter.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Valentine was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles, Robert, Lawrence and Edward; her sister, Cleda and husband Tim E. Valentine, Sr.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lambert and husband Jerry of Johnson City; sons, Tim E. Valentine, Jr. of the home and John E. Valentine and wife Darla of Greenville; granddaughter, Meleta Stallard of Gray; nieces, Alma J. Buchanan and Edwina Buchanan Booth of Tazewell and Charlene Buchanan Brooks of Chattanooga

The family of Mrs. Valentine wishes to express special thanks to Hospice of Johnson City for such loving care given their mother, especially Meliss Ray, Suzie Dayton, Cindy Queen, Chaplain Tucker and D. H. Love. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Johnson City.

Graveside memorial services were conducted by Chaplain Victor Tucker , Saturday, January 3 at Monte Vista Memorial Gardens in Johnson City.

Snyder's Funeral Home of Gray served the family.
