A Claiborne County Deputy resigned on Tuesday, March 22 following his own arrest in Campbell County.

Jeffrey Scott Artz, 30, of Speedwell was arrested on Sunday, March 21 after allegedly assaulting his wife.

According to a police report filed with the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office, Artz was arrested after his wife filed charges against him.

The report states further that Elizabeth Artz had severe bruising on her arms, back and neck along with swelling on both of her eyes. She also sustained a broken toe and had a knot above her left eyebrow.

The victim, Elizabeth Artz, stated to a duly sworn officer with the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office that on March 18, after confronting him about an extramarital affair that he beat and choked her.

Later that day, he was arrested and taken into custody by the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office on charges of domestic violence by assault.

Listed in the Campbell County Public Records for March 14 through 21, Elizabeth Artz filed a petition for an order of protection against Jeffrey Artz.

Sheriff David Ray confirmed that at the time of his arrest that he was employed by the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office but was no longer with the department.

Artz was given a $5,000 bond and will appear in court later this month on the charges
