Mr. Robert Houston Hurst, age 84, of Tazewell, TN passed away at his home on January 16, 2012. He was born on March 30, 1927 to Alexander and Kate Hurst.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother A.C. Hurst, and sisters, Betty Hurst, Minnie Crutchfield and Zola Venable.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years: Carra Leffew Hurst. Sons and Daughters-in-law: Jerry and Carolyn Hurst of Andersonville, TN; Larry and Lois E. Hurst of New Tazewell, TN. Granddaughters and their Husbands: LeAnn and Dan Korth of Maynardville, TN; Ashley and Dustin Love of New Tazewell, TN. Great-granddaughters: Hannah Skeens, Raleigh Korth and Sydney Korth all of Maynardville, TN. Great-grandsons: Houston Love of New Tazewell, TN; Robert “Clay” Korth of Maynardville. Both of his great-grandsons are named after him. He is also survived by his sisters: Ruth Mullins and Martha Myers. Sisters-in-law: Edna Burke, Charlene Cupp, Helen Steadman and Nadine Roberts and husband Charles. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

He worked for the Tennessee Department of Transportation for 36 and a half years before retiring. He spent his retirement assisting his neighbors and enjoying time with his family. He will be remembered as a man who was always willing to help someone in need and as a man that was loved and respected by his family. He will be missed by his family, friends, former co-workers and all who knew him.

The family received friends on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, from 6 until 9 p.m. at Coffey Funeral Home in Tazewell. Funeral service 11 a.m. Thursday, January 19, 2012, at Coffey Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Fairview Cemetery.
