Dorsey Humfleet, age 74, of Speedwell, Tenn. was born on February 6, 1934 and went home to be with the Lord on January 21, 2009. He was a devoted member and trustee of Carr’s Chapel Baptist Church where he served faithfully. Dorsey loved fishing, gardening, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Fred and Frona Humfleet; three brothers, Ed Humfleet, Earl Humfleet, and Bobby Gene Humfleet; and two sisters, Ruby Hatmaker and Mable Evans.
He leaves behind his family who loves him dearly, his wife of 53 years, Katherine; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sheree and John Schneider, Brenda and Dan Graves; three grandchildren, Andrea Schneider, Deborah Schneider, and Christopher Graves. He is also survived by four sisters, Ina Ruth (Bob) Byrd and Patty Moyers of Speedwell, Dorothy Adams and Jenny (Donny) Fultz of Middlesboro and one sister-in-law; Helen Humfleet of Greer, SC; along with a host of nieces and nephews; and a very special neighbor James “Jimmy” Brooks.
Dorsey always enjoyed his morning coffee and visiting with his buddies at Valley Market and Owens Grocery. He will be greatly missed by all of them.
The family will receive friends on Friday January 23, 2009 at Coffey’s Funeral Home in Harrogate from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be Saturday January 24, 2009 at Carr’s Chapel Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mike Humfleet officiating. Interment will follow at Carr’s Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Fred Feller, Greg Hatmaker, Mont Welch, Sam Owens, Ronny Dunn, and Brian Alexander. Honorary Pallbearers are Bob Byrd, Bill Hatmaker Frank Yoakum, Jimmy Brooks, Wayne McNew, Jerry Clawson, Walter Dunn, Rufus Dunn, Jeff Dunn, Steve Dunn, along with the men of Carr’s Chapel Baptist Church.
The family wishes to extend a hearty Christian “thank you” to a loving church family and community for all their support.
