The Tazewell Speedway is still bringing in the fans and as witnessed by the numbers in the stands for the June 23rd regular weekly racing program.

It seems to be alive and well in an economy that is still struggling to say the least. It’s been known that for many years now that the Taz is the place to be in Claiborne County on a Saturday night. In fact, Claiborne Progress readers have voted it the best place to spend a Saturday night for several years’ running.

Gary Hall has made several improvements to the track that draws national attention each and every year and he plans on making more improvements to the track and the equipment used to maintain its legendary high-banked clay surface.

Hall added, “We have bought a new road grader and it should be here soon. It’s going to help us keep the track maintained better and hopefully provide a faster, smoother surface.”

East Tennessee race fans and fans from nearly every state in the nation come to Tazewell Speedway twice a year to witness the two major dirt car series run on the tiny, high-banked track. The World of Outlaws and the Lucas Oil series both filled up the stands for their 2012 visits and the fans were treated to some record setting dirt action. These two races alone help Claiborne County with much needed revenue as fans spend several dollars in the area each time they visit the speedway.

The crew at Tazewell Speedway is one big family whose main objective is to bring each and every fan that comes to the speedway a great night of racing and they take it upon themselves to show pride in their work. Over the years the admission prices have risen somewhat but there are still plenty of special events for families to look for such as kid’s nights and dollar hot-dog promotions.

The sights, sounds and smells of racing at Tazewell Speedway will stick with a person for their entire life and to see those cars slide into the turns at such a great speed for the first time is not something that will be forgotten especially in a young kid’s eye. Tazewell Speedway still has what it takes to offer bang for your buck.
