Friday, February 6th- Claiborne High School played host to Pigeon Forge and won one out of three games played. The JV boy’s took the court first and grabbed an early lead during the first quarter. They took a seven point lead into the locker room for the half-time break and kept the lead even throughout the third quarter; however, an 18-7 run during the final quarter in favor of Pigeon Forge was enough to secure a win for the visiting Tigers. The final score was 43-42. Next on the floor was the Varsity girl’s. Both teams fought back and forth throughout the first half and the contest was tied at the half-time break. It was a low scoring first half with both teams placing 16 points on the scoreboard. Claiborne played courageously but fell in the end by a score of 41-33. The varsity boy’s Bulldogs came out on fire for the first half of the night’s final contest and used the early momentum to propel them to victory over the Tigers in what ended up as a much tougher win than Coach Harville wanted. The 21-12 first half advantage was quickly erased by a 33-25 Tiger attack during the second half. Missed free throws in the fourth nearly cost the Bulldogs as they were only able to hit 4 out of 11 shots attempted. Coach Harville was stunned by his teams play and talked about what the team needed to do following the 46-44 win, “We keep shooting ourselves in the foot and we need to be making better decisions. I can’t explain why we make the decisions we do sometimes but we will keep working on them and trying to improve.” The Varsity boy’s improved their record to 15-6 and travel to Hancock on Tuesday, Feb. 10th then back home to play the final game on the current schedule against Gibbs on Friday night. The much anticipated Pink-out for Black will take place during Friday night’s activities and Claiborne High School hopes that the community will come out and support this important cause.
