After having a stellar regular season the Lady Panthers found themselves in the District 2-AA Championship game versus a Pigeon Forge Lady Tiger team that was ready to play four quarters. Coach Brooks’ Panthers started the game quickly with Emily Daniels, Jonna Adkins and Chelsea Graves each throwing in 5 points to help give them the first quarter advantage 18-16. Even early in the game the score stayed close as the two teams went back and forth on the scoreboard. Great scoring by Tracey Shackleford in the second quarter helped the Lady Panthers extend their lead to 27-23 at the half. Pigeon Forge came out of the locker room with intensity to spare and began the second half on a scoring run that by the quarters end would give them a 39-37 advantage. The defense of the Lady Tigers held CGHS to 17 points in the second half allowing them to secure the Championship by a score of 58-44. Tracey Shackleford led the Panthers with 12 points. Emily Daniels had 9. Jonna Adkins 8. Courtney Crowder and Chelsea Graves both had 5. Mackenzie McFall and Courtney Williams both scored 2 and Ashley Thomas contributed one point. The disappointed Lady Panthers accepted the second place trophy and refocused their attention on the upcoming regional tournament. Coach Brooks stated after the game, “Every time we play Pigeon Forge it seems that we can’t play two halves of basketball for whatever reason. They are a good team but we simply can’t play a complete game against them.” When asked if they would be ready for regional play she added, “Even though one of our goals was to win this tournament, the kids know that our other goal was to go to the regional and win.” Regional tournament play begins for the Panthers on the 27th-28th.
