Lee County bowlers take Battle of the States

In the Battle of the States at Hillcrest Bowling Lanes, the Lee County Senior Bowlers made a comeback and won the monthly tournament by 32 pins.

The tournament was held February 14 at Hillcrest in Jonesville, Va. The total score was Lee County, 6737 pins and Harrogate, 6705 pins.

High games were rolled by George Bolinger (211) of Harrogate and Frank Jessee (205) of Lee County. High series was rolled by Frank Jessee (571) and Wayne Hounshell (547).

The Harrogate seniors and their scores were: Wayne Wade (543), Ralph Young (524), George Bolinger (522), Mac Cavins (486), Jim Liford (480), Dan Evans (478), Ray Jefferson (428), Eugene Evans (417), Ed Jaworski (416), Don Williams (409), John McCreary (398) and Bill Kunz (398).

The Lee seniors and their scores were: Frank Jessee (571), Wayne Hounshell (547), Bill Newman (481), Bruce Jones (476), Rex Harber (476), Ralph Willis (452), Bill Smith (442), Alan Smith (426), Jack Bonham (418), Verlin Martin (405), Larry Cody (371) and Nathan Hartsock (364).

The next tournament will be held Saturday, March 14, at 1 p.m. at Hillcrest Lanes in Harrogate, Tenn.
