With spring fast approaching fans in the area anticipate the start of racing at Tazewell Speedway. The wait will soon be over as we kick off our 44th season on Saturday night April 4th with the Tennessee Thunder Dirt Car Series. The region's top Super Late Model drivers will be on hand to compete for $3,000 to win. Also in action for the season opener will be Limited Late Models, Modified Street, Pure Street, and 4 Cylinders. Track owner Gary Hall had his crew working hard over the winter laying down tons of new clay. Several drivers were on hand this past Saturday for an open practice session and were quick to praise the new racing surface. There will be lots of special events and promotions throughout the season to make it easier for families to attend. Highlights of the season include the O'Reilly Battle of the Bluegrass Dirt Car series making two stops on May 23rd and September 6th. Ray Cook's O'Reilly Southern Nationals Series will roll into town on Saturday July 25th for the finale of the their grueling two week tour that will visit ten different tracks in a matter of thirteen days. This will be the fifth consecutive year that the Southern Nationals crown their champion with the finale at Tazewell Speedway. The O'Reilly Battle of the Bluegrass Open Wheel Modified Series will visit Tazewell Speedway on June 6th and August 15th. The biggest race of the year will come on Sunday July 5th as the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctions the Toyota Knoxville 75.
