A quick thinking employee of Lee’s Food Mart on Highway 63 in Arthur responded well in order to foil an attempted robbery late Monday night.

Just before midnight, Lance Norris, an employee of Lee’s Food Mart, was closing the store when he was approached by a white male who was armed with a pistol and demanding money.

Norris reported the man came around the corner of the building just as he was closing the store. Norris said the man told him to give him the deposit. When Norris replied that he did not have the deposit, the man instructed Norris to go back inside and get the money.

Norris said he went back into the store as if he were getting the money and locked the door behind him then proceeded to the store’s back room. There he locked himself in the room and called Claiborne County’s 911.

The man, who was reportedly wearing a ski mask and camouflage jacket, did not attempt to gain entry to the store and quickly left the scene.

Several officers from Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) soon arrived on the scene then pursued the robber, but they did not apprehend the suspect.

The CCSO will be investigating the incident further and more information will be provided as it develops.

The Campbell County Sheriff’s Department also assisted by setting up a road block on the Claiborne and Campbell County line.

I also feel very strong that these people robbed the three establishments in Harrogate about a month ago. hopefully the local law enforcement can get it figured out and justice be served.

I also would like to inform the communities that these people have been known to go around acting as if they are scrappers or out to clean property and at the same time they are casing your house or property whatever the situation may be.

I know some people(if you dare call them that) in particular that have made robbery and stealing a part of their lives and a form of occupation for themselves. They come from Chicago where they have very extensive arrest and conviction history for robbery and stealing.

They have not been caught yet but it is just a matter of time, I hope, however, they do not hold jobs not legal ones anyway, they live right in Harrogate in the Shawanee(Bristol Road). Be very aware of these people, I wish I could say more but I assume they would not allow me to say much more and still post this.

Communities need to be aware and educate themselves about these types of cowards doing these dastardly deeds in our communities and step-up to them. The local law enforcement needs to step in and do something more than wasting their time on the easy things like catching speeders, and stay out of the convenient stores so at the least look like they are doing something.
