Reverend Franklin D. Brooks, age 76 of New Tazewell, passed away April 18th, 2009 at Claiborne County Hospital. Reverend Brooks retired from the United States Air Force in 1973 after 21 years of service. He was a former manager of Claiborne County Farmer’s Co-Op. Reverend Brooks, a United Methodist minister, pastored Thompson, Mayes, and Irwin’s Chapel churches. He was a longtime member of New Tazewell United Methodist Church. Rev Brooks was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and a Shriner. Reverend Brooks was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert & Nan Brooks of Monroe, Michigan and his wife of 49 years, Patricia Anne Hill Brooks.

Survivors include:

Daughters: Mitzi and husband George Surber, Carolyn and husband James Buck, and

Beth Brooks; Grandsons: Levi and Kelly Buck and Clay Surber; Brother: Jimmy Brooks; Sister: Nelia Lorenzten and husband Ernie. A host of nieces and nephews.

Very special extended family: the James Levi Hill Family. Very special friend: Holly Cheek

The family received friends at Claiborne Funeral Home Monday night April 20, from 6-8 PM. Funeral services were at Claiborne Funeral Home Tuesday at 11:00AM with the Rev. Bill Duncan and the Rev. Jake Beeler officiating. Music was provided by Stanley Leonard.

Graveside service followed at Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Levi Buck, Kelly Buck, Clay Surber, Tony Walker, Rusty Neely, Bernard Coffey

Honorary pallbearers: Dr. William Smith, Barry McKinnon, E. M. Buddy Duncan, Sambo Brooks, Jerry Brooks, Members of Thompson Chapel Church, Members of New Tazewell United Methodist Church.
