On Thursday, April 16th- The Cumberland Gap Panthers traveled to Claiborne High to play the second rivalry baseball game of the week against the Bulldogs. Zach Baughcum pitched a one-run gem against the CHS team that had taken a win away from his Panther teammates on their home field earlier this week. Offensively the Panthers used good judgment at the plate and forced the Bulldog pitchers to get the ball over the plate. The Bulldog pitchers struggled to throw strikes consistently thus giving the Panthers a number of chances with the bases nearly filled or loaded. Timely hits kept the Panther momentum going through five innings where it looked like they would take a victory by the run-rule. Claiborne rallied and scored one run in the bottom of the fifth and took the game into the sixth. The Bulldogs allowed the Panthers to add to their lead in the sixth and could not match the Panthers on the scoreboard. The final score of the contest was 14-1 in favor of the Panthers. Colby Cannon played well offensively and was on the base pads a lot throughout the course of the contest along with teammates Trae Minton and Seth Sharp. CHS used three pitchers Jacob Holt, TJ Cloud and finished with Billy West. Offensively the Bulldogs struggled at the plate and never found their swing. Immediately following the earlier loss the CGHS coaching staff went to work and had the team focused and ready to play. The Panther team came into the contest with revenge on their minds and not anything else but leaving with a win would do.
