H.L. Smith, born August 3, 1960, went home to be with the Lord on May 5, 2009. He was a member of East Cumberland Avenue Baptist church. A life long member of the Tazewell Jaycees and Claiborne County Fair Association, H.L. was also a dedicated employee of Tazewell Speedway for many years. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Noah and Virgie Smith and his maternal grandparents, Herman and Bessie Alston, all of Tazewell; and father in law Doug Campbell of Middlesboro, Ky.

Surviving family members are his beloved son, Joshua Charles Smith of Tazewell; devoted wife, Danna Campbell Smith; loving parents, Pete and Eupha Smith of Tazewell, sisters Sherry Hurst of Tazewell, Charlotte Seals and husband Ron also of Tazewell; Donna Burnette and husband Robert of Knoxville; niece Tiyawnah Hurst Miracle and husband Adam of Enterprise, Al; nephew Tyler Hurst of New Tazewell; mother in law Bebe Campbell of Middlesboro, Ky; maternal aunt Jewel Nelson of Kokomo, In; maternal unless Ray Alston and wife Florence of Knoxville; Pete Alston and wife Winifred of Tazewell; paternal aunt Duetta Robinson of Waynesville, NC. Joshua’s mother is Winnia Lawson of Morristown.

Pallbearers were his fishing partner, Will Thompson; John Thompson; Bill Lakins; Fred England; Noble Short; Buster Cupp; Blaine Frazier; Neal Meyers; Dennis Winkler; an avid Wooten.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Claiborne County Fair Association and the Tazewell Jaycees.

Services were conducted by Rev. Mitchell Fergerson and Rev. Parker Epperson. Music was provided by Bebe Campbell.

Internment followed at Fairview Cemetery, Tazewell.

Memorials are suggested to The Low Vision Center, in care of Dr. Bruce Gilliland, 1124 E Weisgarber Rd #207, Knoxville, TN 37909.

Coffey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
