Mr. Edward R. Smith, 85, of Sharps Chapel, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday August 8, 2009. He was born December 9, 1923 in Harlan County KY. He served in the Marine Corps during WW II, serving on Midway Island for four years.

He was preceded in death by: Parents: George and Della Claiborne Smith, Three brothers and one sister.

He is survived by: Wife of 57 years: Lucille Calloway Smith, Step Daughter: Connie Yerman and husband Rick of Michigan, Brother: Ralph Smith and wife Barb Cleveland, TN, Sisters in law Blanch Adkins and husband Tom of Lafollette, TN, Betty Helton of Sharps Chapel, TN, Four Grandsons, Special Nephew, Michael Helton of Sharps Chapel, Special Nieces, Danielle, Dawn, and Desiree Helton of Sharps Chapel

And a host of other relatives and friends

The family received friends Tuesday from 5 to 8 PM at Claiborne Funeral Home. Funeral services followed at 8PM in the Claiborne Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Gary Tye officiating. Music was provided by Greg and Pauline Chapman. Family and friends meet Wednesday at 11AM at Claiborne Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 12:30PM at Rest Haven Cemetery in Harlan, Kentucky.
