October 22nd- The Claiborne Middle School football team traveled to Grace Christian to play the final game of 2009. The young Bulldog team has had ups and downs this season and was looking to end on a positive note. Grace Christian used an early first quarter score to take control of the contest. Claiborne tried to answer with a drive of their own that got into the red zone but failed on a fourth down play giving the ball over on downs. Grace Christian then drove the ball and scored another touchdown in the first quarter. Before the half was over they had scored 21 points against the young Bulldog defense. In the second half both teams scored only once a product of a tightly officiated contest that at times had coaches and fans at wits ends. As the final buzzer sounded the score was 28-8 with Grace Christian taking the victory. Paul Estep and Tristan Noe threw and caught the ball well throughout the game and Dakota Brock had another good game scoring the Bulldog’s only score on a long run of about 80 yards. Head Coach Travis Bailey had this to say about his teams efforts, “Our O-line blocked well with 5 seventh graders; Cody Davis, Dakota Tolliver, Austin McDaniel, Nick Wilson and Dillan Tuttle. Defensively we had one of those nights where we just couldn’t tackle.” The program would like to thank Barry Liles and staff for their help overall and with equipment and jerseys. Also a big thanks goes out to all the families, fans and the community in general for supporting the 2009 Claiborne Middle School football program.
