Turner has been a songwriter and teacher of music for over 70 years.
“I still teach and write,” Turner said, “I teach the fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo and the bass. I never had a lesson, it’s a gift.”
He has two new songs that are being promoted by Steve Gulley and his Grasstone Band, “You Little So-and-So” and “Heartbreak Express.”
His song, “The Beautiful Altar of Prayer” has nationwide recognition and is on a CD that won a Grammy and was recognized by former Rep. Mark Goins who presented Turner with a plaque for the song.
Turner Music has shows every Friday and Saturday nights. Saturday’s shows are set aside for bluegrass music and Sunday’s shows are gospel music and preaching.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by the community,” he said, “That’s what this is here for, the community.”
Turner Music holds benefit shows and all donations go toward the cause of the benefit.
Turner said that it is even a bigger honor to be recognized with his niece, Bernice Tennyson.
“She’s the daughter of my dear brother, Rev. Hubert Turner who passed away about four years ago,” Turner said, “I’m really proud of her and I’m proud to be in the parade with her.”
Turner said he is looking forward to the parade Saturday and encourages everyone to drop by Turner Music for their shows and to also check out 98.3 WTAZ which airs all day, every day.
