Johnie Smith age 84, of Speedwell was born June 20, 1925 and passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2010. He was of Baptist faith and attended the Speedwell Academy Church. He served in the Army Air Force, was a member and Past Master of Valley Star Masonic Lodge #577 of Speedwell for over 40 years and served as treasurer, and was a Past Worthy Patron in the Eastern Star.

He owned and operated Smith’s Garage in Speedwell for 52 years before retiring. In his retirement, he enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, going fishing, and feeding all the birds that gathered in his back yard, but most of all he enjoyed taking his little dog Bridgett for car rides. Preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Lois Jean (Shipley) Smith and daughter Betty Joan (Smith) Robertson; parents, Nolay and Willis Green Smith; brother, Fred Carson Smith.

He is survived by son, Kennith G. Smith and wife Treacy; grandson, Steve Carson Smith and wife Angela; great grandsons, Wyatt and Carson Smith; great granddaughter, Kendra Smith, all of Speedwell; two sisters, Lettie M. (Smith) Russell of Speedwell and Mary Ann (Smith) Pepon of Sandusky, Ohio; special niece, Linda J. Russell of Speedwell.

Interment 1 PM Saturday Yoakum Cemetery with Military Honors by Campbell County Honor Guard

Family received friends 5 PM to 7:45PM Friday with Masonic Service at 7:45PM at Cross-Smith Funeral Home
