Several burglaries that have occurred over the last ten months have been solved after a traffic stop on Tuesday, July 27.
On Tuesday afternoon, Detective Anthony Veillon and Bob Morelock performed a traffic stop in the City of Tazewell.
The suspects in the vehicle were believed to be linked to several burglaries throughout the county and both cities.
Captain Wayne Mewhinney of the New Tazewell Police Department arrived on the scene to assist the investigators due to the suspects being tied to an ongoing investigation.
During the initial interview with the occupants, Detectives Veillon and Morelock discovered that a male inside the vehicle was a wanted suspect.
The male was then placed into custody.
Through search of the vehicle, the detectives discovered $6,376 in U.S. Currency in their possession along with jewelry believed to be stolen property.
Other items that were located inside the vehicle were quickly identified as stolen property throughout the cities of Tazewell, New Tazewell and Claiborne County.
At that point, a full-scale investigation was launched with all departments.
Burglaries that have been linked to the suspects are as follows:
- Three in the Clouds Community
- Two in the Cave Springs Community
- Four in the City of Tazewell
- One in the City of New Tazewell
One male juvenile was arrested in connection to the burglaries and is currently being held in a Knoxville Juvenile Detention Facility.
There are more locations being discovered and investigators are still collecting evidence and notifying victims.
Throughout the next several days, detectives with both cities and the county are filtering through stolen property reports, trying to notify victims and return property back to the rightful owners.
“More burglaries throughout Claiborne County will be solved due to this case,” Sheriff David Ray said, “My investigators are continually working to get these burglaries solved and they are closer to solving more with this case.”
Charges are currently being filed against Jacob Hurst, 20, of Tazewell.
The investigation is currently ongoing.
