Get your ducks in a row! The Servolution Health Services Duck Derby 2017 is just around the corner.

The event is scheduled for Sept. 30. For the main event, rubber ducks will be launched into the creek beside the Olde Mill Inn Bed and Breakfast in Cumberland Gap. The race course will begin at the bicycle museum and run to where the creek goes into Tipprell.

Proceeds from the Duck Derby will benefit Servolution Health Services, a non-profit, free health clinic in Speedwell.

Before the actual duck race, though, there will be something for everyone.

“There will be a pancake breakfast, 5K and lots of kids’ games,” said Deborah Chumley, co-CEO and chief operating officer of SHS.

The pancake breakfast, hosted by the Cumberland Gap Fire Department, will begin at 8 a.m., the 5K and kids’ games will begin at 10 a.m. and the Duck Derby will commence at noon. All of the events will be set up outside, Chumley said.

The first duck to cross the finish line will win $500. Second place will receive a Cumberland Gap merchant package with an approximate value of $200, which includes merchandise and/or a gift certificate from Papa Chum’s, Gap Creek Coffee House, Pineapple Tea Room, The Artists Co-op, Mitty’s Metal Art, The Frame Shop, Angelo’s and The Olde Mill Bed and Breakfast. Third place will receive a gift package worth approximately $100 which includes a Crater City Boutique card, a Gondolier gift card, a LuLaRoe gift card and a Pampered Chef gift card.

Other prizes include: four passes to the Arrow B Ranch Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch; D-COM T-shirts and lanyards; gift card from City Sippers; Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum family pass, notebook and tote bag; Servolution Thrift Store/Path to Peace gift basket; and Haymaker T-shirts.

According to the official rules, the race course will close 15 minutes after the first duck has crossed the finish line. Any duck finishing after that 15 minute time period will not be eligible for prizes.

Top winners in the 5K will receive a FitBit. Other prizes include: a North Face hoodie; a Crater City Adventure water bottle; a three-month gym membership to Path to Peace Wellness and Fitness Center. Also, each 5K participant over 14 will receive a day pass to Path to Peace Wellness and Fitness Center, Chumley said.

Ducks can be purchased until 10 a.m. on the day of the race. Employees and members of Servolution’s board of directors, and their immediate families are not eligible to win prizes.

Chumley added that organizers hope the Duck Derby will become an annual event for Servolution Health Services.
