Two people died as the result of a car crash in Middlesboro Wednesday morning.

According to a report from the Bell County Coroner’s Office, it was contacted by the Middlesboro Police Department regarding a wreck near the intersection of 34th Street and Winchester Avenue.

Upon arrival, Deputy Coroner Jason Steele was updated by officials from the Middlesboro Police Department and Kentucky State Police and confirmed two fatalities as a result of the accident.

A report from The Big One WRIL states that MPD Officer Josh Pratt, the investigator in the incident, says that preliminary information is that both vehicles were traveling west on Winchester Avenue around 1:30 a.m.

His report states that a “white vehicle driven by a male was traveling at approximately 80 mph when it approached the silver/gray vehicle and attempted to pass it.” Pratt went on to say that “Pratt says that while passing the silver/gray vehicle, the white vehicle sideswiped the silver/gray car making impact with the female driver’s side door. The white car then made contact with the vehicle’s left front tire sending it into a ditch line.. The white car then also hit a ditch line, careening out of control into a telephone pole with the forward momentum causing it to roll several times approximately 150 feet. This is 250 feet from the point of original impact with the silver car.”

The driver, identified as Calvin John Albarico, 21, of Middlesboro, and a passenger from his vehicle, Chloe Lamb, 19, of Harrogate, were ejected during the accident. They were both pronounced dead at the scene by Steele.

Two women were taken from the scene of the accident via Middlesboro Fire/EMS and then flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.

Also assisting on scene were MPD Officers Lt. Eddie Myers, Sgt. Josh Burchett, Michael Bradley and Nick Capps.

The MPD, KSP, the Middlesboro Fire Department and the Bell County Coroner’s Office coordinated efforts at the scene.

The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation by Pratt.
