Panthers soccer overpowers Bulldogs

Claiborne High School boy’s soccer visited rival Cumberland Gap, March 22. Claiborne has been working to establish their soccer identity in the district and one team that always stays in front of their goals is the Cumberland Gap Panthers. The Panthers are as steady as any program in the district and simply overpowered the Bulldogs in an 8-3 defeat.

Carlos Salgado put two in the net for Claiborne, while Tyler Napier added one.

In the books for Cumberland Gap were Drew Ramsey with two goals and one assist, Jayson Upton with two goals and one assist, Merle Gilbert with one goal, Nich Neverstitch with one goal and three assists, Miles Cole with one assist, Gage Ellison with one goal, Nathan Hinkle with one goal and two assists. Keeper Jake Bullins had two saves in 60 minutes, Dalton Cornett had one save in 10 minutes and Tyler Nelson had two saves in 10 minutes.

The Bulldogs will look to stay on the path of improvement as the Panthers hope to go deep into post-season play. The Bulldogs are coached by Jason Mustard and the Panthers are coached by Matt Neverstitch. This game was the only regular scheduled meeting between the two rivals for 2018.
