Special Olympians compete in cornhole
The Special Olympics Cornhole Event has become a yearly tradition of fun and physical activity for many Olympians around the Claiborne County area.
This year it was more of a county event than in past years due to several schools not attending for various reasons. However, the schools in Claiborne County itself met March 23 at the gymnasium in Springdale Elementary. All in all, 14 schools featuring over 90 athletes, including Cumberland Mountain Industries, fielded teams.
The event provided plenty of exercise, competition and smiles for all who attended, helped and volunteered. Among those who helped Olympians wrap medals around their necks were The Sports Center, Claiborne High School Service Learning Class and Cumberland Trails United Way in addition to many volunteers.
This event is one of many different types planned for 2018, including the ever popular Track and Field event coming up May 11.
