Calling all books!

The Claiborne Public Library is granting a one-week stay of execution of late materials fees during the week of April 8-14. Those who have failed to return books and other items to the library in a timely manner will have their overdue fees waived, if those items are returned during this one week period of amnesty.

However, this courtesy does not apply to existing fines on previously returned items.

Those who have misplaced their library cards may redeem a fresh one, free of charge, simply by request.

Spring has arrived, and so has the ever-popular Spring Book Sale. All manner of reading, viewing and listening materials may be purchased during the week of May 7-12.

Included in the long list of items are hardback books, movies, music CDs, audio books and puzzles for just $1 each. One thin dime will buy you a paperback book or magazine, while two quarters (50 cents) can be exchanged for a trade back book.

The annual event will be held in the basement of the library building. Hours are Monday through Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Thursday and Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

All items are sold ‘as is.’

For those who have not yet caught up with the technological age, you may find some relief via free computer classes at the library. The six-week course gives the computer novice the how-to in utilizing email, Facebook, Microsoft Word, TEL and R.E.A.D.S. Common computer terms, features and parts of the equipment are also explained during the class.

The course is taught each Wednesday, from noon to 2 p.m.
