JFWA Holiday Classic begins with Lady Knights loss

The 2017 JFWA Holiday Classic tipped off Dec. 19 at Mars Gymnasium on the campus of Lincoln Memorial University. The annual tournament always brings in some great teams and competition. The J. Frank White Lady Knights opened up the action with a battle against the Lynn Camp Lady Cats.

The 8-2 Lady Knights started quickly and led 11-3 at the 3:38 mark in the first period. The Lady Cats stormed back and were down only one point at the end of the first period, 11-10.

The first basket made during the second period allowed Lynn Camp their first lead at 12-11. The two teams alternated the lead throughout the second period but when the buzzer sounded at the half, the home team was down by one point at 21-20.

The third period was much the same as the two teams were still swapping the lead. The Lady Cats took the advantage during the third by hitting a big three plus the harm. They held a seven-point lead at the end of three periods 34-27. The Lady Knights used aggressive defense to assist their offense as they tried to make a comeback. The Lady Knights missed several shots down low and with 3:22 left were down by five at 38-33. Lynn Camp was able to stay just out front and win 47-35 behind a 22 point effort from Bradi Coe.

Beraya Piercy led the Lady Knights with 14 points and Abigail Garner dropped in seven points. Presley Cole and Kinsee LeFevers finished with four. Kyla Piercy scored three, Kirsten Keith had two and Chrissy Bradley rounded out the total with one point. The tournament continued Dec. 21 and finished Dec. 23.
