The Advanced Master Beef Producer classes for 2018 have been scheduled and we have a great line-up of speakers. The Advanced Master Beef Producer educational program is a series of classes to give beef producers in-depth knowledge on a variety of production topics. UT Extension provides equal opportunities in programs and employment.
This year’s class will begin on Tuesday, February 27, then other classes will follow on March 1, 6, 8, 13, 20, 22, and March 29 will be our graduation. Our speakers this year will include local veterinarian Dr. Erica Oller of Harrogate Hospital for Animals in Harrogate who will talk about herd health. From the University of Tennessee, Steven Huff will cover forage production, Dr. Neal Schrick will cover reproduction, Dr. Dwight Loveday will cover end product, Milton Orr cover genetics, and Adam Hopkins will cover marketing. John Hodges from the Tennessee Department of Agriculture will speak at our final meeting on industry issues and Ag Enhancement grant program.
This class is open to anyone who wants to learn more about beef cattle production. It is also a key part of applying for the Tennessee Ag Enhancement Program grants. Cost for the class will be $75 and includes a reference book, hat, farm sign, and a nice meal on graduation night. All classes except the final graduation class will be held at the Claiborne County Courthouse in the large courtroom. All classes will begin at 6 p.m.
For folks who need re-certification in Advanced MBP, please read carefully. If your Advanced MBP certificate is dated January 1, 2015 or after you do not need to re-certify this year. You will be eligible for the 50 percent TAEP cost-share with your current certificate. If your certificate is dated 2014 or older then you will need to re-certify.
